Guided Reading^® Levels in accordance with Fountas and Pinnell

Guided Reading® is an instructional approach in which a teacher brings together a small group of children who are similar in their reading behaviors at a particular point in time. The teacher selects a text that enables them to use what they already know how to do as readers and extends their “processing power” with a few new challenges. Through reading with teaching support, they become more effective processors of text. The ultimate goal of Guided Reading is independent reading.

Crabtree Publishing titles are leveled for Guided Reading instruction in accordance with the work of literacy experts Irene Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell. The chart shown below will help you guide students to the appropriate levels of books and promote their success as readers.
